R:1-Logging on & navigating the network developing basic knowledge of the functions of the mouse, keyboard and mouse (New Unit)

About this unit:
This unit is designed to give all the children the basic familiarisation with icons, buttons, keyboard and mouse functions to enable to child to select the right option to control the computer and access the information they need to operate the computer.

Where this unit fits in:
This unit fits in alongside the Early and Basic Keyboard skills Unit, which familiarises the children with the layout of keyboard exploring the letters and function keys they will need to locate and use in order to log onto the system and to begin to see how these functions control the computer.

Resources:
Class name card; with how the letters will look like on the keyboard ( all Capitals and highlighted in a colour to make them stand out from the others),
How text looks in general printed form (Capital letter at the start and lower case for the remainder).
How this can look when displayed (all lowercase and a reception friendly font such as Sassoon Primary and Comics sounds) which they maybe familiar seeing in print around the classroom.
Also, how text can look in printed books (lowercase and in basic Arial or Times)
NOTE:- Showing the different styles may seem as though it could add confusion, but I| have found that it avoids the children thinking they have got it wrong as when they see the letters they have found on the keyboard in capitals that they do not look the same on screen after being selected.
